Michelle Slater Performing Arts Studio Classes
Ballet
Ballet classes are a great way to develop dance technique, build strength and help correct posture. We offer examination classes (RAD syllabus based) and non-examination classes. Exams are not compulsory, however students doing exams are encouraged to do two ballet classes per week. All competition students are required to do at least one ballet class per week. The studio achieved a 100% success rate in ballet exams in 2007.
We also offer fairy ballet classes for the very young (from 2.5 years of age).
Jazz
Jazz classes are offered for all ages up to Adult. Jazz incorporates a variety of dance styles and is very visual & powerful form of dance. Jazz encourages flexibility and instils a sense of strength in participants. All classes generally perform at least one number at our end of year concert.
Tap
Tap classes are offered for all ages up to Adult. Tap is a rhythmic & energetic dance style with many of our students mastering complex and visually spectacular routines. Our combined Jazz/Tap classes are structured so that half the class is spent working on each dance style. At the end of year concert students perform both a separate jazz & tap routine.

Hip Hop
The latest and most contemporary of our dance styles offered, our hip hop classes are designed for those students who want to learn the latest moves as seen on music videos. This dance style would be defined as being unrestricted & sharp, yet loose. Classes are open to ages from 8 years up to Adult and provide a great workout for everyone!
Drama
Topics covered include acting for Film & TV; Stage Vs TV acting; improvisation; the casting process; audition techniques; script analysis; working with a director; projection & speech; memorising lines; creating a character; beating stage fright; TV presenting; stage combat. Acting classes are offered for Under 12 years and over 12 years.
Singing
Private lessons are available for those wanting to learn to sing in half hour lessons providing one-on-one tuition. Our Singing & Drama classes (for groups) specialize in singing, movement, drama games & improv and is a great environment for building confidence in a group setting. We hold a singing Cabaret-style performance in August where students get to showcase their talents in a multiple of ways. The singing classes usually perform a number at our end of year concert.
Acro
This is a very physical class designed to teach the basics or more advanced levels of acrobatics depending on the student’s level of exposure to this style previously. The class includes tuition in cartwheels, flips, one handed cartwheels, no hand cartwheels. This class does not do a routine at our end of year concert.
Musical Theatre
